A blog on Just one man's opinion for the week.

The big political news of the week is the Presidential debates. This is the time where both candidates have their chance to pitch their plans to the American people, but why haven't we gotten their plans for the nation yet? It is less than 32 days before the General Election, yet we still haven't gotten their ideas for the future of our nation? I think not.

Now before you think I am going to bash Sen. Kerry, you are wrong. It is in my humble opinion that if you do not know what either candidate stands for you are not trying hard enough. Now Sen. Kerry has not stood very strongly on some of the issues, but he is on TV everyday giving speeches about what he is standing for.

I believe if you do not know what the candidates stand for it is your own fault, for all the information is out there. Just go to a search engine and type in John Kerry or George W Bush and there is more sites than you can shake a stick at. You can't use the excuse that you do not have cable or the internet since there is the network news every morning, noon, evening, and night. If you don't have a TV use the radio, no radio use the Newspaper, no money go to the library since it's free. So I ask the question again, "why don't we know the plans of our candidates."

I feel we have grown out of touch with reality as a nation. We have forgotten what men and women have died for to keep our way of life alive. Every morning people around our great nation wake up, go to their jobs, and try to gain the riches they feel are entitled to them yet have never sacrificed anything for. These are extremely talented people who should use some of their talent to better our nation.

If you were to go out on the street and ask a random person what Democracy is they would probably give half an answer, for they will have no clue of what freedom really is.

I try to tell myself that we have not grown out of touch, and I try to honestly believe it since I am an optimist, yet some Americans shake this optimism every single day of my life. It is my observation that people are so caught up in their own lives they have forgotten how our Democracy operates. The United States has went form a nation of We to a nation of Me.

I hear people all the time say that they hate politics, and it's so boring. I guess their busy schedule of sitting in front of the TV gorging themselves to reality TV is just more entertaining then making decisions towards their own futures. You say what? " In go to them gym all the time. I barely watch TV." I'm very glad you take care of yourself, but can you name your two Senators? The sad truth is no, they have no clue who even one Senator is. If you can name your Senators then you are on your way to becoming a great American.

The truth is, we need to pay more attention to the world around use then to ourselves. The one weakness of our Democracy is not the terrorist, North Korea, our any foreign power. The one weakness of our Democracy is us, the American people and our lack of caring. For when you stop caring democracy then it will cease to exist.
